Pa drafodaethau y mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi'u cael yn ddiweddar gyda rheolwyr a gweithwyr TATA Steel?

I have regular discussions with the UK Government’s Business Minister Nadhim Zahawi MP and the Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart MP.  The future of the steel industry in Wales is a key topic we discuss.  I last discussed the matter with Nadhim Zahawi on 16th November and with Simon Hart on 13th and again on 16th November.

I am seeking a meeting with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The First Minister has written to the Prime Minister about the strategic importance of Tata Steel, and is seeking a discussion with him.

In my Oral Statement of 17th November I explained that the First Minister and I spoke with Dr Henrik Adam (CEO Tata Steel Europe) on 13th November.  I also spoke with Roy Rickhuss, General Secretary of Community Union on 17th November.

The Welsh Government believes that the steel industry in Wales has a sustainable future, given the right support.  Only the UK Government has the capacity to provide the scale of support required.  We need the UK Government to urgently consider what more they can do to support the steel sector in Wales.  This means having meaningful discussions with the Welsh Government, the sector and the unions about the immediate and long term future of steel making in the UK, including how the UK Government can support the sector with the investment needed to move towards low carbon steelmaking.  Importantly we also need the UK Government to take action to create a competitive business environment, including action to address high industrial electricity costs.
