Janssen-Cilag are the major supplier of transdermal Hormone Replacement Treatment (HRT) patches to the UK and the sole supplier for combined HRT patches. This shortage follows a large increase in demand which resulted in stock being depleted earlier than expected. Supply of Janssen-Cilag products will be disrupted until mid-2020.
On 4 September we wrote to health boards, GPs and community pharmacists to advise them of the situation and provide guidance on clinically appropriate alternative suppliers and HRT preparations. Patients concerned about the availability of HRT are advised to discuss their treatment options with their prescriber.
