A progress report on the project to harmonise foster care fees and allowances was considered by the National Fostering Framework Strategic Steering Group on 16 May.
This is a complex and sensitive project, and although good progress has been made to date, there is still much work to be done before any new model can be endorsed and implemented. The work to date has focused on building an accurate picture of the fees, allowances and any additional payments made to foster carers by each local authority in Wales, identifying the key principles of a new payment structure, and developing options for a new model. The next stage, to be undertaken during 2019-20, will involve the complex task of estimating the approximate costs of introducing any new payment structure for each local authority.
