Work is well underway to progress implementation of the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017 (the Act). The provisions in the Act relating to a national strategy on preventing obesity and reducing obesity levels in Wales came in to force on the 4 October 2017 as did the provisions relating to fixed penalty receipts for food hygiene rating.  Part 5 of the Act came into force on 1 February 2018, introducing a nationwide ban on the intimate piercing of under 18s.   A consultation exercise on the local toilets strategies started in mid-January.

As the nature of the work in relation to implementation is varied a staggered approach has been taken allowing for the preparatory work to take place. This takes account of a number of factors such as the need to prepare and consult on regulations and training and communications work where appropriate.
