WJEC does not publish text books for Religious Studies or any other subject.

Awarding bodies are not required to provide textbooks to support the teaching and learning of their qualifications.  Textbooks are produced by commercial publishers who decide on the titles to commission and the timetable for publishing, these decisions are market- driven.  Commercial publishers are separate to awarding bodies and so awarding bodies have no power over decisions made by publishers.

In subjects where textbooks are not a commercially attractive proposition to publishers, awarding bodies may decide to produce a range of digital materials which are free of charge for schools and learners to download from their respective websites.

Although Welsh Government has no control over decisions made by commercial publishers I have established a bilingual educational resources stakeholder group to look into the different aspects of developing resources and advise me on options for new ways of working going forward.
