Water companies have to produce statutory water resource management plans every five years, setting out how they will ensure a resilient water supply over the next 25 years. These identify risks and outline strategies—including infrastructure investment, leakage reduction and demand management—to keep services reliable, sustainable, and secure.

We are working with environmental regulators, the water industry and third-party experts to develop and review evidence, including recommendations from the Cunliffe review on microplastic contamination and its impact in Welsh waters. This includes sources such as sludge. This will inform future monitoring and targeted, proportionate action.

Our funding of the Fly-tipping Action Wales programme continues to support local authorities in South Wales East to tackle fly-tipping. This includes providing access to dedicated enforcement support, expert legal advice and surveillance equipment. The programme also focuses on preventive action through communication campaigns and awareness raising.

The proposals set out in our consultation respond directly to matters raised by the self-catering sector during implementation of the new letting criteria. They are intended to support ongoing stability for the self-catering operators that have met the 182-day letting threshold, helping ensure they can continue to achieve it consistently.

I work closely with the Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government and other Cabinet colleagues to support local authorities and the essential services they provide across Wales.
