I am proud that we became the first country in the UK to make hospital grounds, school grounds and public playgrounds smoke-free, protecting public health from harmful second-hand smoke and contributing to our record-low levels of smoking prevalence. I am pleased the UK government is considering similar regulations in England.

One hundred and seven requests to call in a planning application were received between November 2021 and November 2024. Seven cases were called in for determination. Twenty-eight remain under active consideration.
