The NHS Wales workforce is at the heart of our health system and is often best placed to identify changes that will improve the experience of colleagues and patients. As the workforce engage through staff networks, staff surveys and trade unions, we must actively listen and respond.

The Welsh Government proactively engages with life sciences companies through the life sciences hub and Business Wales. Opportunities and support are available, through mechanisms such as our innovation support and the small business research initiative, to develop innovative medical technology with and for the NHS.

The Welsh Government does not currently collect this data. We recognise the importance of reliable waiting time information to drive the improvement this area needs, and the Neurodivergence Improvement Programme is working with the NHS executive performance and assurance team on improving the data collection process from local health boards.

The Welsh Government has to balance available funding against significant pressures faced by public services. This is against the background of austerity, meaning difficult choices continue to have to be made. The pressures across NHS Wales are recognised as one of the First Minister’s four priority areas.

Steel is one of my top priorities, and I continue to work with transition board partners to mitigate the impact on steelworkers by the Tata Steel UK transition as well as engage with the UK Government around further opportunities for the sector.

The Welsh Government holds regular discussions with Cardiff Council about major events. These discussions cover the strategic approach to attracting events, as well as operational matters such as transport planning, marketing and the content of events, to ensure such events are as accessible as possible.

Our evidence-based approach, developed through future grid for Wales, shows the need for new infrastructure to meet our energy needs. The Welsh Government is representing our communities in the strategic planning for future infrastructure, supporting development that will use the minimum infrastructure and meet the needs of our economy and environment.
